walking past my old apartment, it's striking that the new occupants never threw out the dead plant we left on the fire escape. it sits there, drooping down, crying out to be thrown away.

these songs, written earlier in the year, have similarly taunted me. they're ambient dirges, mumbled attempts at capturing a feeling haunted by loops, drones, and feedback. i've wanted to put these out for some time, to remove them from the fire escape that is the bandcamp drafts, but hesitated.

each song was recorded as a single take, my voice sometimes floating over the mix, other times washed out in delay. i'd been listening to grouper and mount eerie, trying to approximate that detached embodiment of overflowing emotions.

i'm not sure i succeeded, but making them grounded me in my body. lying on the floor, the dirt seeped out of my plastic pot. my leaves shriveled. but my window sill is now full, new plants snaking up and competing for the light.
